Later this month, the California State Legislature will take up a bill that would effectively ban a county’s ability to contract with personal service providers, including non-profit organizations and health care providers. This poorly conceived and hugely damaging bill will restrict counties’ abilities to contract for a wide variety of vital services upon which many members of our local community depend.

Today’s announcement is fantastic news for the San Fernando Valley and the rest of Los Angeles. Hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2028 gives LA even more time to build our momentum for a truly great Games. The agreement demonstrates that Los Angeles can reap economic and social benefits throughout Los Angeles County with minimized risk. In the San Fernando Valley, we’re excited to host the canoe slalom, equestrian, and shooting events which will bring the Games to Valley residents.

VICA was proud to have supported AB 398, the extension of California’s cap-and-trade program. The successful passage of this bill will allow California businesses to continue to compete globally. California’s cap-and-trade program serves as a model for other states with strong and growing economies.

The Valley Industry & Commerce Association (VICA) applauds the decision made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) early Tuesday morning to award the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games in the fall. The IOC voted unanimously in favor of awarding hosting rights for the 2024 and 2028 summer Olympics in the same session in September, pending agreements with Paris and Los Angeles.
