    Today, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors introduced a motion to instruct the Department of Regional Planning to prepare four ordinances related to housing. VICA commends the work the County is doing to help address the housing crisis, but has strong concerns about a potential inclusionary housing ordinance. Read more

    This week, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors brought back a proposal to implement a business registration program for all businesses in unincorporated L.A. County. In 2016, when the proposal was first raised, VICA strongly opposed the registration program and fee as the VICA board failed to see what problem it would solve. Creating a new program will add another layer of regulation and fees with no benefits to County residents, local employees or business owners. Read more

    I was watching A Christmas Story with my kids recently, and it rang a little too true. You will recall that our hero, Ralphie, really, really, really wants a Red Ryder BB gun – and when he gets it, he nearly shoots his own eye out. I think that all kids have this experience to some extent. Happily, my own kids haven’t shot their own eye out (yet) but as kids grow up, they learn the lesson that not everything they want is necessarily good for them. Read more
