    How Viable is a Plan to Phase Out Three LA Natural Gas Power Plants?

    Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said Monday that the city will no longer pursue plans to fund the rebuilding of three natural gas power plants along the state's coast. Stuart Waldman, president of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association, joins AirTalk with Larry Mantle to discuss the issue.
     
     
    Los Angeles to Close 3 Power Plants in Aggressive Move Toward Green Energy

    The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power will be shuttering its three gas-fired coastal power plants over the next decade, a key step in the city's aspiration to become the nation's first metropolis to run entirely on renewable energy. Stuart Waldman of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association, a business advocacy group in the San Fernando Valley, called Garcetti's plan, "a shortsighted and expensive experiment." He questioned both the reliability and cost involved.
     
    LA Ethics Commission Backs Restrictions on Developer Donations Amid FBI Corruption Probe

    Faced with persistent complaints about a "pay-to-play" culture at Los Angeles City Hall, the City Ethics Commission backed new restrictions Tuesday on political donations from real estate developers seeking city approval for their building plans. Stuart Waldman, president of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association, predicted that any crackdown on donations directly to campaigns would simply spur much bigger donations, known as "independent expenditures," to outside committees that support LA candidates.

     
    VICA Opposes School Tax Measure

    The Valley Industry & Commerce Associationhas come out against a June ballot measure for a parcel tax to raise money for the Los Angeles Unified School District. The Van Nuys business advocacy group opposes the tax because there is no plan on how the money will be spent and some of the exemptions granted to not pay the tax. "We are unhappy it is being rammed through," VICAPresident Stuart Waldman told the Business Journal. "There was no opportunity for discussion or negotiation."
