  • VICA Applauds Governor Newsom for Signing Supportive Housing Bill

Van Nuys, Calif. – The Valley Industry and Commerce Association (VICA) is extremely pleased with Governor Newsom signing Assembly Bill 1197 (Santiago) into law. This legislation would exempt supportive housing projects funded by Measure HHH or emergency shelter projects funded by the Homeless Emergency Aid Program (HEAP) from CEQA requirements.

    VICA President Stuart Waldman said:
“In 2016, Los Angeles voters approved a measure to help fund the construction of supportive housing to help address homelessness in our city. Unfortunately, a number of proposed supportive housing projects have been obstructed due to the abuse of CEQA. AB 1197 would prevent this abuse by exempting supportive housing projects funded by Los Angeles’ Measure HHH from CEQA requirements, allowing housing to be built for individuals suffering from homelessness.
“We commend Assemblymember Santiago for bringing this legislation forward, and we are pleased that Governor Newsom has chosen to sign this bill into law.”
The mission of the Valley Industry & Commerce Association (VICA) is to enhance the economic vitality of the greater San Fernando Valley region by advocating for a better business climate and quality of life.
