  • Take Two! Senator Wiener Takes Action to Address Housing Crisis

Van Nuys, Calif. – On Monday, the California Legislature reconvened to begin the new legislative session and begin working on critical issues facing our state. This morning, Senator Scott Wiener announced the introduction of Senate Bill 50, reaffirming his commitment to address California’s housing crisis. SB 50, The More H.O.M.E.S. Act of 2019, is a spawn of Senator Wiener’s SB 827, which failed to make it out of committee in the 2018 legislative session.
The Valley Industry & Commerce Association (VICA) is proud to support SB 50 as an innovative approach to building more housing, cutting gridlock and reducing emissions. The bill’s provisions preserve local planning approval processes, displacement policies and affordable housing requirements for new construction.
    VICA President Stuart Waldman said:
“The introduction of Senate Bill 50 demonstrates Senator Wiener’s commitment and willingness to solve California’s housing crisis.
“Senate Bill 50 lays out a vision for transit oriented communities throughout the state where Californians can afford to live near their job and get there easily using public transportation.
“People are tired of commuting long hours to get from where they live to where they work. The lack of housing supply has resulted in skyrocketing rents, and pushed working- and middle-class families to live in one city and work in another.
“We are proud to stand with Senator Wiener and begin working on making SB 50 a bill that will transform housing in California.”
