  • New Metro Shuttle Service Will Improve Connectivity for Warner Center

Van Nuys, Calif. – The Valley Industry & Commerce Association (VICA) welcomes today’s approval of the Warner Center Service Improvement Plan by the Metro San Fernando Valley Service Council. The new service plan will help better connect the Warner Center to the Orange Line bus rapid transit, allowing employees, shoppers and residents easier access to public transit.

“Warner Center is a vibrant and unique mixed-use community. Accessible public transit is critical to its continued success,” VICA President Stuart Waldman said. “The new Metro service plan for Warner Center will greatly improve opportunities for residents, employees, customers and students to connect to important community resources such as the Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills Medical Center, Pierce College, Westfield Topanga and The Village, and the Warner Center Corporate Park.”

A new shuttle to and from the Orange Line Canoga Station will be introduced that will increase the number of stops along Warner Center from one to 10, as well as extend service to Warner Center Corporate Park and the Woodland Hills Medical Center. The simplification of the shuttle route around Warner Center will also improve travel time and decrease wait time when transferring to the Orange Line.

The Orange Line is the most heavily used bus line in the San Fernando Valley. For years, VICA has advocated for increased resources for the Orange Line to better meet ridership demands by increasing capacity and improving travel time. VICA ensured that dedicated funding for improvements to the Orange Line – including its eventual conversion to light rail – were part of Metro’s Measure M. Projects that will soon be underway with these new funds include the installation of crossing gates along the entire route to increase speed and improve safety, as well as connecting its eastern terminus to the San Gabriel Valley via bus rapid transit.

Metro will conduct community outreach on the Warner Center service changes during the spring, and the changes are expected to take effect in June 2018.
