Despite VICA’s calls to the City Council urging important changes to the Ordinances to remove provisions on rebuttable presumptions and punitive damages - the City Council chose to make surviving the economic crisis impossible for businesses.
VICA had also called for an exemption for stadiums and hotels with less than 275 rooms.
VICA President Stuart Waldman said:
“These policies ensure that workers are the last employee to be rehired.
“They tie one arm behind the backs of hotels who will be trying to hasten a recovery.
“These Ordinances ensure that hotels will be sued for untold millions of dollars for simple and innocuous mistakes.
“It is a sad day today. But when hotels are closing and the recovery fails, it will be the result of the Los Angeles City Council’s failed policies.”
